Misc. Thoughts

This is the perfect monday morning!

  • The windows are open and the breeze is blowing.
  • We slept in.
  • My hair is all over the place and I don’t care
  • My own breath is starting to bother me though
  • Eyes are still a little crusty
  • We are watching Jon and Kate plus 8

It is spring break for Seth and we have rearranged our family schedule and taking some time together.

A few things about the weekend:

  • First gear
  • Barry did a great job communicating about the cross of Christ and what we must nail to the cross.
  • The opportunity for everyone to write their sin, habit, hurt, pain, etc.. on a black peice of paper with black ink and come nail it to the cross was very powerful in all of the services!
  • Second gear
  • We introduced Ike as our new Church Administrator. Every service applauded and one service applauded twice. Think it is safe to say that everyone is excited.
  • In case you missed it – Ike and his wife Charlene have been attending Parkview for 2+ years. Prior to that they attended North Point in Atlanta for 7 years. Ike most recently served as President of Operations at Bell South and oversaw 20,000 employees and 8 billion in Revenue. Needless to say he is the most overqualified Church Administrator.  Yet, Ike is thrilled about undertaking the most important task of his life – serving the kingdom. Ike will work about 24 hours a week and also continue to do consulting and corporate board work.
  • You can send Ike a word of welcome if you would like – ike@parkviewlife.com.
  • Third gear
  • Had a great elder meeting yesterday.
  • Fourth gear
  • Last night Denise and I had one of our best dates in the 20+ years we have known each other.
  • It was surprise and I guess that was a little part of the fun.
  • She is an amazing woman and I love her more everyday!
  • Fifth gear
  • Easter is going to be awesome!!
  • Thanks to everyone who let us shoe polish their window.
  • The post cards looked great and have hit the mail boxes.
  • Each one of us now must do our part – give a personal invitation to someone to come with you and celebrate the risen Christ!
  • Be blessed!

Fish Story

Been a little busy, but I have a few minutes between appointments and wanted to throw out a quick post.

Saturday around lunch time Seth came running inside asking for a hot dog and saying that he needed it for bait in order to be able to fish.  I asked him who he was fishing with and he told me a couple boys he had met. I gave him the hot dogs and a few minutes later I decided I would go outside and see just who these boys were and what they were up to.  One of the boys had his pocket knife out and was cutting some fishing string and tying it to a 4 or 5 foot stick. I asked where they had gotten the fishing string. Seth told me they had gotten both the string and fishing hooks out of my tackle box. They seemed to be so excited I skipped the speech about asking first next time.  I had to leave shortly thereafter and when I returned home after church Seth about tackled me telling me that he had caught 6 fish and 1 snapping turtle on the homemade fishing pole. Then again yesterday after school he pulled out the same pole and probably caught another half dozen! Fishing made easy! Who needs a $25,000 bass boat and $500 rod and reel.

Fast forward – last night I was putting him to bed and asked him what Bible story he wanted me to read out of his childrens Bible. He said he wanted me to read John 3:16-18. In his little childrens Bible it has a little insert that explains just how is easy it is to apply John 3:16. It uses the verse and inserts some blanks and instructs the child to fill his name in the blanks – which Seth did. So it reads like this – For God so loved Seth that He gave His only Son, that if Seth believes in Him, Seth will have eternal life. We then talked about how easy it is to believe in Jesus. It is just that simple!

Here is the connection- in order to get saved a person doesn’t need a family Bible, a 10 million dollar church building, a preacher quoting Scripture or the worship pastor playing a hymn. Let us not make fishing for men any harder than it needs to be!! Go pull out your homemade fishing rod, share your faith and catch men and women for Christ!

Before the Chores Post

Have a few honey do chores to get done but wanted to share a couple quick things.

  • In case you have not heard, Davis arrived yesterday at 2:52 pm and a whopping 8 lbs 14 ounces.
  • Loving the beautiful weather.
  • Looking forward to our weekend services.
  • This is a tremendous weekend to bring a friend!

TEAM

The team you work with can make you a winner or they can set you up for failure.  I am privileged to work with an incredible staff team that sets me and our church up for success!  We had a wonderful all-staff meeting today.  We did a SWOT analysis and I will be sharing a little bit more about that later this week. We also had someone new at our meeting and I will be sharing more about that later this week.  Breakfast was 12 free bagels I won in a raffle :-) and lunch was provided by Mae Checci – a dear sweet woman in her late 70′s who can cook  Italian food like nobody’s business!

Tonight is the awards ceremony for Seth’s Upward basketball league. Kevin, the youth pastor at First Baptist, did a phenomenal job running the league this year. I am so grateful that First Baptist offers this program (although I still have building space lust).  Our team is having a little pizza party before the ceremony – we have some really nice parents.

This morning on the way to school I was talking to Seth and we were discussing the weekend lesson he was taught in Son Zone. The story was on the widow and her two mites. That then led into a discussion about – what is a widow? That was an interesting conversation! He is a great kid and I am blessed to be a dad.  It so thrills me to know that Barry and Laura are going to enjoy the same privilege of parenting a little boy!  No, Davis is not here yet but Denise and I are saying the full moon will be bringing him out to play tomorrow – we will see! Keep Laura in your prayers.

Also, check out Robert’s comment on yesterday’s post – it is worth the read.

God is good!

Welcome to the Family!

Dear JJ,

You won’t believe the incredible community of believers that exist at Parkview! But you will be privileged to meet us very soon, because our faith family has given a  total of $4,837.06 to complete your adoption.  Your new parents, Thomas and Renee, needed miracle and they got it! Meagan can’t wait to see you.  Our church is the bomb and our children’s ministry is going to do our best to minister to you in whatever way possible.  Our deaf ministry doesn’t have anybody as young as you, so I bet you will be the center of attention there as well when the time comes.  We will pray for you faithfully until your safe arrival in Palm Coast.

Love,

Your new friends and family!

Day Off

I shared my schedule earlier this week and stated that my day off is Friday – so what does tomorrow hold? A hearty breakfast and a day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. A friend of a friend works at Disney every winter for a couple months in Disney’s “if you are retired and always wanted to work at Disney a couple days a week in the winter and get out of the snow” program. I don’t think they get paid or if they do it is very little, but one of the perks is a plethora of free passes. We will use three of them tomorrow and what a blessing!!!
