Misc. Thoughts

This is the perfect monday morning!

  • The windows are open and the breeze is blowing.
  • We slept in.
  • My hair is all over the place and I don’t care
  • My own breath is starting to bother me though
  • Eyes are still a little crusty
  • We are watching Jon and Kate plus 8

It is spring break for Seth and we have rearranged our family schedule and taking some time together.

A few things about the weekend:

  • First gear
  • Barry did a great job communicating about the cross of Christ and what we must nail to the cross.
  • The opportunity for everyone to write their sin, habit, hurt, pain, etc.. on a black peice of paper with black ink and come nail it to the cross was very powerful in all of the services!
  • Second gear
  • We introduced Ike as our new Church Administrator. Every service applauded and one service applauded twice. Think it is safe to say that everyone is excited.
  • In case you missed it – Ike and his wife Charlene have been attending Parkview for 2+ years. Prior to that they attended North Point in Atlanta for 7 years. Ike most recently served as President of Operations at Bell South and oversaw 20,000 employees and 8 billion in Revenue. Needless to say he is the most overqualified Church Administrator.  Yet, Ike is thrilled about undertaking the most important task of his life – serving the kingdom. Ike will work about 24 hours a week and also continue to do consulting and corporate board work.
  • You can send Ike a word of welcome if you would like – ike@parkviewlife.com.
  • Third gear
  • Had a great elder meeting yesterday.
  • Fourth gear
  • Last night Denise and I had one of our best dates in the 20+ years we have known each other.
  • It was surprise and I guess that was a little part of the fun.
  • She is an amazing woman and I love her more everyday!
  • Fifth gear
  • Easter is going to be awesome!!
  • Thanks to everyone who let us shoe polish their window.
  • The post cards looked great and have hit the mail boxes.
  • Each one of us now must do our part – give a personal invitation to someone to come with you and celebrate the risen Christ!
  • Be blessed!

Sunday Night

  • I saw alot of volunteers serving the Lord with excellence and ministering to the hearts of people.
  • If you serve faithfully at Parkview, I want to personally thank you for all you do.
  • Last Sunday night I gave great appreciation to my wife and staff team that are such a vital part of all the successes at Parkview.  Please know that our staff looks good because of the faithful, effective service of our volunteers.
  • On any given weekend just take a minute and look around and notice the huge number of people that it takes to minister to our church family.
  • This weekend I observed our lawn team, cafe crew, sound personel, greeter team, ushers, nursery workers, son zone workers, band, praise team, LIFE group leaders, teen small group leaders, set up helpers, hospitality team, check-in helpers, and cleaning crew – those groups include a VERY LARGE NUMBER of people! THANKS!
  • Our very first Discovery Point luncheon went very well – it was a privilege to get to meet some new friends in a relaxed environment.
  • At the noon service I gave some “bonus material” that I did not share at any other service.
  • Had a blast at the Fireproof marriage conference in Daytona!!!
  • The teaching was excellent!
  • Ted Cunningham was hilarious and hit the nail on the head.
  • He is Dr. Gary Smalley’s pastor – I bet that would give you an interesting feeling.
  • Denise and I have a special day planned tomorrow and I hope to have some photos to share soon.
  • We will begin the day at 5:00 am. That feels like it will be here real soon.
  • Had a Wal Mart fresh pizza for dinner tonight – the sausage and mushroom one was pretty good.
  • We have a tremendous Palm Sunday weekend planned for next weekend!!!
  • I met several new friends this weekend. I thank the Lord for the guests He continues to send our way!
  • Parkview family – Let us go out of our way and welcome all those who visit!
  • I am very tired and it is going to be an early morning.
  • Have a God honoring week!

Sunday Wrap

  • It is just before 11pm and it feels like 3am.
  • Long day, great day, fun day, God’s day!
  • Worship was tremendous this weekend. Thx to Derek and his great team! To God be the glory.
  • Drama team nailed another one.
  • Easter drama is going to be off the chain!!
  • I know it probably sounds crazy but I book appointments on Sunday afternoon. My adreniline is going so strong that I just keep going. What would I do if I came home, it certainly would be no fun for my family to see me curled up in a ball on the couch for the afternoon. So I sleep it off in the evening. It just works for us.
  • Today I had a lunch appointment and then 2 very important meetings.  It was a wonderful afternoon!
  • Seth was so well behaved at our lunch appointment that after my last meeting was over at 7:30 we went to DQ for ice cream as a reward for Seth. He wanted his cousin to go but settled for Grammy and Pop-Pop joining us. After we got home he went straight to bed.
  • Denise and he are sleeping sound. Denise substitute taught 4 days last week and has already been called in for tomorrow.
  • All the phenomenal things that are happening at Parkivew would not be possible without the loving support of my wife!! She is absolutely phenomenal, not to mention beautiful!
  • Second to that, all that is happening at Parkview would not be possible without a great staff team.  They do their jobs well and that frees me to do my job.
  • Alot of times, as the pastor, I get the credit but my family and my team deserve most of it and in that order!
  • I received two super nice emails tonight. One from a church member and another from a first time guest – very encouraging!
  • For some reason I have had a nagging cramp it the right side of my right calf for about the last two hours – just thought you might want to know:-).
  • Seth asked me if I would be bringing him on stage today because I had not done that in a while! He makes me laugh out loud!
  • The mint oreo blizzard is not as good as the butterfinger in my opinion.
  • Loved the new song, I am Counting on God!!
  • 10:30 was very crowded again today! Almost 300 in that service alone. Can a preacher get a little help – how about 9am or noon!!!
  • This week we are doing some creative planning for the series that starts the week after Easter.
  • We will also be tweeking and drilling down on the details for Easter.
  • Easter weekend we will be doing our four normal service times and be adding Easter sunrise at Princess Place Preserve.
  • Palm Sunday we will be doing something we have never done before. It is kind of a creative element and yet a responsive element at the same time. Can’t wait!
  • I love what I do, it is as simple as that!
  • Have a blessed week.
  • Be sure to tell someone about God and tell someone about Parkview.

Sunday Wrap Up

  • No man could leave church and say they were not called out this weekend. We communicated the following statements:
  • I have never seen a passive man ever accomplish anything significant for God.
  • Many church worship services feel like a hyper estrogenized Mary Kay party – not so at Parkview.
  • We don’t want our men driving pink cadillacs.
  • An authentic man is one who rejects passivity, accepts responsibility, leads courageously and looks for the greater reward – God’s reward.
  • Real men accept responsibility and no that is not always easy.
  • It easier to blame your lousy marriage on your lousy spouse.
  • Yes we are in a series on the economy and the whole point was it is time for men to own up to their part of the mess.
  • Nobody on the 6 o’clock news is accepting responsibility but we will.
  • Enough on some of the things I said in the sermon.
  • The 3 guys who shared their stories on our panel did a GREAT job!! Thanks John, Kenny and Mark!!
  • Our ride out of this mess rides on two parallel tracks. The one track has God as our source of hope and the other track is our accepting personal responsibility.
  • Had several guests who returned again this weekend.
  • Our Fireproof Bible studies are going very well. One class had 44 sign up and last week had 44 show up. That is pretty incredible. Thankfully they were able to train some good discussion leaders.
  • We ate 99 cent tacos for lunch at our new favorite hole in the wall. Enjoyed our food and the company of some friends.
  • I had 3 appointments after lunch, then we left and went to visit Davis for about 5 minutes.  When we got home Denise and Seth went straight to bed and now I am heading to the same place.
  • REALLY looking forward to Parkview Celebrate this Thrusday. Hope to see you there!

Sunday Post Event

  • I love the fact that it will be light longer, I just hate the process that brings it about.
  • No pastor on earth likes spring forward
  • I totally lost my hour of sleep and will be in bed early tonight.
  • Loved kicking off our new series, PalmCoastBailout.com.
  • Great first week.
  • We offered a Stimulus Package – the package contained one thing – HOPE!
  • Rom 5:1-5 is a great passage about hope.
  • We had a good number of new visitors this week.
  • Am glad we offer prayer counselors after the service to help meet the needs of people.
  • Not sure how to spell machetti (that looks write:-)). Loved the machetti illustration. Thanks John for being a somewhat willing participant!
  • Enjoyed Derek sharing Psalm 145:4.
  • Got to go to lunch with a new family to our church.
  • Love the pumpkin bread at Barbara Jeans
  • I am very grateful for the extremely dedicated service offered by our band and praise teams – each and every one of you is a blessing – THX!!!
  • We have an all-staff meeting tomorrow. We gather with pastoral and support staff for a time of growth and leadership. We will spend some of the time doing a SWOT analysis of our church and staff team – Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. I always find our time together to be encouraging and profitable!
  • My assistant, Pam, reorganized by bookshelves – awesome job!
  • I am giving tours of my new office for $3.00 ages 10 and under and $5.00 for adults.
  • Looking forward to some time with Denise tonight. I think Seth is due for a night that has an earlier bed time!
  • Don’t forget, regardless of what happens on Wall Street this week, God is our source of Hope!

Weekend Reflection

  • I feel very blessed to pastor Parkview
  • So many great people, so many friends, so many new friends
  • I think we had 10 people trust Christ as Savior! Got to love that!!!!
  • The drama team communicated an incredible message and they nailed the drama in all four services!
  • Denise did a wonderful job on her solo – I enjoy hearing her sing because I know her heart for the Lord. I love it when it is not words but worship.
  • So many talented people using their abilities in our worship ministry – John, welcome to the team!
  • I thank God for Jer 23:6 – loved preaching the passage.
  • First time in a long time that I wrote 2 messages for the same weekend out of the same passage. I wrote the first message a couple weeks ago and when I came back last week to tweek it and get it ready, I ended up rewriting it all together – used some of my material out of the first message but not alot and went in a very different direction.
  • I love the history and geography of the OT and enjoyed sharing some of that.
  • Thoroughly enjoyed teaching theology at a fairly deep level.
  • As I said in the message, my sins being forgiven is not enough. I also need the imputed righteousness of Christ.
  • If you were not there yesterday and would like to listen to the message you can go here and listen. It should be up by lunch time.
  • Had a great elder team meeting yesterday. The Siboni’s hosted the luncheon at their house and the food was delicious.
  • I met for a few minutes with the couples in our Timothy Progam. I am so excited about what God is doing in their lives.
  • Met with my small group last night and officially handed the leadership off to Dom and Carol Scardino – they are going to do a great job developing disciples!
  • Got home last night and caught most of Celebrity Apprentice. I got a couple laughs in and hit the hay as soon as it was over. One question though, how can you be a celebrity if nobody knows who you are? Or am I just that out of touch? Denise kept asking me who that was and I kept saying, I don’t know. We missed the beginning intros.
  • I will post later today when I know exactly where we stand with adopting JJ.

Mind Dump

Almost 10:30pm and time to hit the hay, but before I do just a few quick thoughts.
-I am feeling very concerned about taking things for granted.
-I am very concerned that our church will take things for granted.
-God continues to do wonderful things – they seem almost regular – this isn’t normal, will we treat it like it is?
-The interviews, the testimonies, the worship, the dramas, the life change, the deliverance, the salvations, the baptisms, the guests, the offerings, the friendships, the opportunities, the ministries.
-This weekend was our highest attendance of the year.
-I experienced a first in ministry this weekend. At the 9am service, in the middle of my message I realized that one of my sermon note pages was missing. I still have no idea where page 3 went!
-I made sure that wasn’t the message we recorded.
-God was good and He gave me clarity and no one noticed that deer in the headlights look when I realized what was happening! I wish we had a video!!!
-We had some new friends at our LIFE group tonight.
-My right calf is sore.???
-Zero on tv tonight.
-Looking forward to tomorrow. As far as a work day it is my easiest one – not easy just the easiest one.
-Told my wife I need some Greg time coming up soon – not really sure what that is going to look like. Do you know anyone with an oceanfront penthose, or even something a little less extravagant?
-I took a minute before the offering and bragged about the faith of our people in the area of giving. That was not planned but just felt led to say it. As we continue to choose faith over fear God will honor our trust in Him. Giving is a matter of the heart and it is a matter of whether we really trust Him. Show me what you give and I can tell you how much you trust God!
-Some people are without jobs and it is a privilege to give to them. 3 families left our church today loaded with groceries. Thanks to all who give to the food pantry.
-I need to go sleep off my holy hangover – all pastors can relate.
-Be blessed, without taking it for granted.
-Before you go, please take a few seconds and offer a one sentence prayer to God, thanking Him for the blessings He has poured out on Parkview.

Weekend Thoughts

The weekend has left the building and these are some thoughts and highlights:

* The weekend started with a 5k run on Sat at 8am. Four others from Parkview also ran. Josh Tew won first place in his age category. We ran the frist half mile together and then, as I promised, I was not be able to keep up with him. I did run the frist mile in 7:30 and there is a reason I am not telling you what I ran the next two miles in! I finished 50th in a field of about 120 – Josh finished 24th – way to go dude!
* After a quick shower and getting my wife in the car we went to meet with a family who lost their husband and father. As you recall, Saturday was Valetines and we were helping these dear people plan a funeral. Do not take your family for granted – every day is precious!!!!!
* Left there and went straight to coach Seth’s basketball game at 11am
* Spent a couple hours at the church Sat. afternoon in sermon prep time.
* Went home and grabbed a quick 30 minute nap with Seth. We were recouping from 5 hours at the Dirt Car Nationals from the night before.
* Looked over my sermon a little more and then left for church.
* After church I had a finance team meeting – really appreciated the leadership of the crew! Great team!
* After the finance team meeting I got a haircut in the ladies room of our church – that sounds so good I don’t think I will explain!
* Went home and watched about 45 minutes of Animal Planet with the family.
* Sunday was a great day in many ways!!!
* Valentines, the Daytona 500 and a three day holiday weekend – all attendance busters but still a very good attendance considering.
* The recap video with the doctors was a good lead in to continuing the message this weekend.
* I loved sharing the principles brought out in this weekends message.
* We had alot of cards turned in as people were asking for help in taking action steps towards healing in different areas of their lives. Tomorrow we will pray for each person by name and then put a plan together for each one. The plan will be developed with respect and privacy for each individual.
* After the three services and a brief metting, I joined the family at Barry and Laura’s for a nice family lunch.
* I got to see all that they received from the baby shower – 2 hours later we ate lunch – just kidding. The ladies did a PHENOMENAL job in throwing them an INCREDIBLE shower. Thanks to all who participated!
* Then in the afternoon Denise and I travelled up to Jacksonville and I spoke last night at Trinity Baptist Church. It was a wonderful service and I was privileged to speak.
* Afterwards we went to Chili’s with several friends and partied way later than I realized!
* Denise and I got home just before midnight.
* Hence today we slept in, went for a very late breakfast at Denny’s and have been enjoying Presidan’t Day.
* I have worked for a little bit and now am getting ready to go outside with Seth and shoot his BB gun.
* I love my family, my job and this beautiful day! Thanks God for blessing me so much this weekend!

Weekend Mind Dump

* ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!!!
* We spoke about Jehovah Rapha, The Lord who heals (Ex 15:26), and it was an amzing service!
* We spoke about physical healing (Ps 103:1-3), emotional healing (Ps 147:3), national healing (II Chron. 7:14) and spiritual healing (Is 53:5).
* Dr. Darren Peterson and Dr. Steve Bower both did an incredible job helping me communicate the message about healing.
* There are 3 general surgeons in town and these guys are two of them. Both guys are committed Christ followers and serious about their faith. They are active in our church in many ways. What a privilege it was to have them share with our congregation this past weekend.
* If you were unable to attend, you have got to go to our website and listen to the free sermon podcast. It should be up online by the end of the business day today.
* It was one of the top ten services we have ever had!!!!
* I am calling an audible on next weekend. We are going to pick up where we left off. What exactly that looks like right now I am not sure, but the Lord has made it very clear to me that we will go back to this weekend’s topic.
* So many people came forward for prayer and anointing (James 5:13-16).
* I had no idea that so many people would respond.
* At our noon service, 2 hours after the service started, people were still be prayed for!
* People were asking God to heal them of addiction, sexual abuse, marital hell, cancer, disease, joblessness, depression and on and on the list could go.
* It was one of those times God showed up and you were just thankful to have been present.
* I POSSIBLY HAVE TWO MASSIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS TO MAKE THIS WEEK ON MY BLOG. I WILL DEFINITELY MAKE ONE MASSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT THIS WEEK!!!!!!
* The possible announcement has to do with a very famous person that I had the opportunity to meet last night. I actually met them as they were visiting in Palm Coast for the evening.
* The defenite announcement that I have to make this week is about our church doing something that I have never heard any church do before. It has probably been done but I have never heard of it if it has been.
* I should be able to make one of the announcements tomorrow.
* God, I, nor our church desrves what you are doing in this place. We are humbled by your grace and mercy. Thanks!
