Weekend recap with a twist

  • If you were at Parkview this past weekend then you know we did something we have never done before. We showed a pre-recorded video message where I preached Romans 7:1-6.
  • It was different, pushed the envelope and was risky (we did it because those things fit in our DNA).
  • With our new technology we felt we should leverage the opportunity.
  • Pastor Derek and a few volunteers did a phenomenal job on their very first project of this magnitude.
  • I was curious how the message would be received. I went on Facebook Saturday night and saw that somebody who had just been to church had already posted that the service was awesome – that was encouraging.
  • Kind of neat to think that my son and I could attend a AA baseball game on Saturday night and and that our family could attend a friends church on Sunday morning in another state and I could still preach 3 services at Parkview.
  • I love pastoring a church that is not boxed in by “we have never done that before”.
  • I love my church family!!
  • My family and I are enjoying our summer break. We are definitely getting refreshed and recharged.
  • A few years ago, under Dr. Randy Poyner’s advice, the elders began to give me an extended summer break. Each summer since that time has been a real gift to me, my family and ultimately our church.
  • We spent the last week with my brother Barry, Laura and Davis. It was an incredible time!!
  • The next two weekends Pastor Jack and Pastor Steve will be communicating the weekend messages. So thankful for their ministry at Parkview.
  • If you would, please pray for my family while we are away I would really appreciate it!
  • I am praying that this will be a great Summer season for our church family!

Weekend Rewind

  • PHENOMENAL weekend
  • God has been so good to Parkview!
  • Our summer has been phenomenal!
  • One of the ushers said to me yesterday – “there are so many new faces”
  • It was a privilege to have Roger and Tammy Akers as our guests this weekend. They have a tremendous ministry in Manila.
  • I watched our church family love on them all weekend and spend every possible minute trying to get to know them.
  • Our offering was very generous.
  • After one of the weekend services a man brought me a check for the Akers. We spoke for a couple minutes, he handed me the folded check and then walked off as I then proceeded to immediately engage others in conversation. About 20 minutes later I went to turn the check in and opened up the fold to see how much it was for. The check was for $10,000.
  • Yes – $10,000
  • I gathered some of our missions team, staff and a couple leaders and took them in my office with the Akers and presented to them what had just happened about 30 minutes ago.
  • Roger and Tammy wept! God tears – tears of joy!
  • What a celebration as we rejoiced in the goodness of God
  • I am still amazed at all that God has been doing over the last few months!!!
  • Please stop now and thank God for His blessing!

Weekend Rewind

  • This has been our best summer ever!
  • I am loving the time we have had to hang out with friends – it was beach volleyball tonight!
  • It is wonderful to see so many in our church hanging out at the beach etc. (I also really appreciate their commitment to gathering to worship before gathering to play!)
  • Our attendance has been tremendous!
  • A number of new families!
  • We have a large number of people away vacationing – can’t wait to see what God does in the Fall!
  • Nice lunch with a friend today.
  • Looking forward to lunch with the Akers next week. Make sure to sign up for the covered dish luncheon!
  • Got an email from someone this afternoon telling me they got saved at Parkview  1 1/2 years ago and want to be baptized!
  • Really excited to see so many people stepping up to volunteer and serve!
  • Participating blows away spectating!
  • Participating in life change is thrilling!
  • I have really enjoyed our series in Romans!!! PHENOMENAL book.
  • A quote from this week’s sermon – It is not about where is your crib, but who is your daddy.
  • We make Christianity all about where we are going to live when it really is much deeper than that. It is not about where you are going to live but who are you going to live for!
  • Click here for a copy of my notes.

Weekend Rewind

  • Incredible!
  • Incredible stories shared this weekend by those baptized last weekend!
  • In each service we had one person join me during the welcome and share why they decided to participate in the spontaneous baptism the previous weekend.
  • Some of the best stories ever shared were the stories shared this past weekend.
  • I called an audible on what I was planning to preach and ended up preaching Acts 8:26-40.
  • The premise of the message was that God speaks and when He does it is our responsibility to respond in obedience.
  • We were spontaneous again this weekend and opened up the altar and invited people to come and respond to what God was saying to them.
  • Great response in each service!
  • Not sure what God is doing but I want to be sure we give Him freedom to work!
  • Every year July 4th is our lowest attendance or next to lowest attendance.
  • NOT THIS YEAR – GREAT weekend attendance.
  • So excited about the future!
  • Click here to watch or listen to this past weekends message
  • I am speaking at a youth camp Mon-Thurs nights in Keystone Heights – had a great night last night! Had a girl saved that the youth group had been praying for for over 1 year!! Others trusted Christ and looking forward to the service tonight!
  • Looking forward to our Pastoral staff meeting tomorrow. Our staff, elders and finance team have been spending time evaluating our current values and how to bring them in line with where we are today as a church.  We have some phenomenal opportunities ahead of us and we just want to make sure we are ROCK SOLID on the values that drive us before we move ahead.
  • God has blessed Parkview with some great leaders and I am so thankful for their hearts and the hard work they contribute into the Kingdom!

Weekend Rewind

  • Parkview is 13 years old and without question I would place this past weekends services in the top 5 services in the history of our church!
  • It was awesome, incredible and phenomenal all at the same time!!!
  • I feel so bad for those who were not able to be there! There is no way to adequately describe the weekend!
  • We sang 2 songs and then I spoke from Romans 6:1-14
  • 3 points – 1. When we experience life change in Christ it is demonstrated by not abusing grace. 2. When we experience life change in Christ we embrace the Christ life. 3. When we experience life change in Christ we express it through baptism.
  • Because the message concluded with a call to follow Christ in baptism, we then gave people an opportunity to be baptized.
  • It was spontaneous baptism.
  • If anyone wanted to be baptized we had, shorts, t-shirts, towels, and flip-flops waiting.
  • Absolutely unbelievable – 18 people were baptized in our services!!!!!!
  • The next day, as I looked back on the event, what I realized was that 12 were men and almost all were under 40. Loved seeing young men go public with their faith!!!
  • One mother followed Christ in baptism and as soon as the service was over her 17 year old daughter came up to me and said, “I need to be saved”. My wife took the 17 year old girl into my office and led her to Christ! Absolutely incredible!
  • You just had to be there!
  • God moved in all 3 of our services!!!
  • To God be ALL the GLORY!
  • I have received all kinds of feedback from the weekend experience!!
  • Love that our people love seeing God move in a mighty way!!!
  • We have changed our plans for this coming weekend in response to what God did last weekend!
  • Can’t wait to see what happens this weekend at Parkview!!
  • You can click here to listen to the message. The video link will be there shortly.
  • Click here for my notes
  • I cannot praise God enough for His move in our services! It was amazing!

Weekend Rewind

  • Father’s Day worshiping the Father – what a way to begin the celebration!
  • Loved all the dad’s modeling spiritual leadership!
  • The father’s day video was strong
  • Dan and Juhlya brought a powerful song for dads – great lyrics
  • I am really enjoying going through Romans 5-7 verse by verse.
  • This weekend (Romans 5:12-21) was straight on. There was no way to gloss over the result of Adam’s sin – Thank God for the second Adam!
  • The best part about the whole weekend was those who trusted Christ as there Savior!!! Love seeing people cross the line of faith.
  • We had a very good response to bringing water and sports drinks for the firefighters battling the wildfires. Filled up the pickup truck. Thanks to all those who participated!
  • I love what God is doing at Parkview! The best is yet to come!

Weekend Rewind

  • The weekend started with our Random Acts of Kindness event Saturday morning. We had a phenomenal turnout with over 100 people participating.
  • It was great to see families serving together. It was great to see a Life Group serving together.
  • I met 2 ladies in church this weekend because someone had gifted them with a Random Act of Kindness. They both said they would be back next week and the one lady said she would bring her husband.
  • We continued in week 2 in our series, ROMANtic Love.
  • I am really looking forward to teaching verse by verse through Romans 5-7!
  • I am so privileged to pastor where people eat up God’s Word. I love preaching at Parkview!
  • I am also thankful that our church is not only about information but also application.
  • Mades Meas, a national missionary from Cambodia ,was with us in all of our weekend services. Thanks to everyone who invested in supplies for his new dormitory. We raised over $1,100! Thanks for your generosity!
  • This weekend our church generously invested their time in local missions and their treasure in foreign missions!
  • That has got to cause God to grin!
  • Also, stuff the truck was stuffed!! Thanks for giving to the food pantry.
  • Denise and I kicked off another Get Connected and enjoyed our time with the new group. One of the people in attendance had just trusted Christ in the 11:00 service!
  • To all of our volunteers who served this weekend, I want you to know we had a number of people come to Christ – thanks for making that possible!!!!!

Weekend Recap

  • The best thing that ever happens on any weekend is people coming to faith in Christ. Praise God for those who made Christ Lord and Leader of their life this weekend!
  • We kicked of our summer series, ROMANtic Love.
  • I had been looking forward to this weekend for several months!!
  • If you were unable to attend because you were on vacation, sick, out of town on business, sleeping in or at the beach (I am good with the first 3) you can click here to watch the message. Watching the message will help you get a feel for where we are going. This first week sets up the journey ahead.
  • I really enjoyed the worship in song, Scripture reading and drama!! So grateful for those who use those talents for the glory of God.
  • Any time any person steps on the stage it is a privilege! What I mean is that representing God and leading others in worship is a privilege – it is an honor!!
  • One of my favorite quotes about the stage is that “when pride walks on God walks off”.
  • I am thankful for such a great team who seek to honor and glorify God in a spirit of humility and gratitude.
  • This coming weekend we are having a baptism celebration. If you have chosen to follow Christ but have not gone public with your faith through baptism it is not to late to sign up. Email john@parkviewlife.com if you would like to be baptized this weekend.
  • This Saturday, June 11 at 9:30am is our Nashville to Neighborhood project. Our church will be going out and performing Random Acts of Kindness through 4 different projects. We have about 100 people signed up to participate – that is AMAZING!! If you would like to participate click here and sign up on our facebook link.

  • We did have an incident this weekend – Seth shut his thumb in the car door. I mean really shut it in the door! It was looking a little better this morning.
  • Hope you have a great week and can invest relationally into someone who is far from God.
